Handmade books are entitled to, in fact need, suitable protective covers to extend their life.
In this workshop you will be introduced to six different protective covers: the solander or drop-side box, which will start the day; the slip cover or chemise for round or square backed books; the cruciform box for square case binding; the cruciform box for books with round spine; a simple folded box for miniature books that can be made from greeting cards, etc., and lastly, a simple folded book protector made from card stock.
This workshop, therefore, will introduce participants to a variety of boxes and other covers that will ensure that your precious handmade books avoid damage and retain their newness for much longer than usual. Various examples of each of the above will be available to view.
All materials will be supplied and included in the workshop fee. Although all covers may not be completed in the day, each will be demonstrated and you will be provided with instructions and materials for all boxes. Please bring your usual tools, although spare tools are available at the workshop. Tea and coffee are available.
