Course description

TUTOR: Jean Kropper DATE: next class in 2025 TIME: 10.00am – 4.00pm Have you ever opened up a book and discovered that the inside of the cover had a beautiful pattern, illustration, or colour? Historically, endpapers were often simply blank pieces of scrap paper, parchment or vellum that were used to keep the text safe from wear and tear. Paper for both covers and endpapers can be decorated using many different techniques. Each result is unique, no two decorated papers will ever be the same. Though decorated papers are increasingly machine-made, we often hunger to tailor make patterns to suit our own project. In this workshop we will make several A3 decorated papers using innovative variations of four techniques to decorate papers. You can work with papers supplied and bring your own coloured or specialty papers to decorate. You will learn the specific techniques that you can then use on your own to make many more. You will have the opportunity to make: • Paste papers • Sponged pattern papers (3 layer) • Crumpled & spray papers with metallics • Calligraphic patterns MATERIALS: Materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring paper, acrylic paints or inks, clothes drying rack, and latex gloves.
