Bernard Middleton has been practising as a bookbinder, and writing about the history and craft of bookbinding, for more than 60 years. During the course of his career, as well as many other major commissions, he has produced an impressive number of gold-tooled design bindings of great elegance. In this volume, a revised and expanded version of the memoir published in 1994 in a fine press edition by Bird & Bull Press, he writes about his life as a bookbinder, and many of his bindings are reproduced in colour.
