Bordeaux International Exhibition of Wines 1882
The full title is “Report of the Executive Secretary on the Bordeaux International Exhibition of Wines 1882”.
This bookblock is a facsimile reprint of the original 1882 document and was produced in 1981.
The untrimmed size is 30 mx 21.2 x 2 cm
The colophon reads: "This is the first publication of The Thumb Press and celebrates the centenary of the Bordeaux International Exhibition of Wines 1882, in which Australia successfully participated as an emerging wine producing country. This facsimile reprint is limited to ten copies leather bound and numbered I to X and three hundred and seventy five numbered copies."
Obviously Australia did not exist yet in 1882! But that’s the wonder of hindsight!
Although the 10 leather bound copies were completed many of the others were left in sheets. They have not been numbered. They came to Sydney Rare Book Auctions in 2018 unbound. A successful binding competition was held in 2019. There are three unbound copies remaining at the Ralph Lewis Bindery.
Note: If you purchase more than one bookblock postage is calculated for the larger item only. Also bookblocks can be picked up from the Ralph Lewis bindery on an open access day.
