TUTOR: Jean Riley
DATE: Saturday 20th April 2019
TIME: 9.30am to 4pm
COST: Members $130, Non-members $165
All levels of experience
Good eye/hand coordination and good dexterity are necessary for this course as sharp knives are used in the cutting of board and paper.
You will be shown correct procedure in the use of these tools but good co-ordination will assure accurate cutting and prevention of injury.
Closed in shoes MUST be worn at all times.
Decorative spine sewn books create attractive interest when such books are displayed on a bookcase. In this workshop you will be introduced to four different spine sewn books that will extend your range of book structures.
Each of the four spine-sewn books, to which you will be introduced, has quite a different sewing structure. There will probably only be time to complete two of the books but you will be provided with the materials and directions to complete the other two at your leisure. Examples will be on display for you to choose which two books you will complete in this workshop.
Creating books with different spine sewings will extend your understanding of how important the sewing is in the construction of a book.
All materials will be provided and are included in the workshop fee. Please bring your usual tools but spare tools are also available at the bindery. Tea and coffee are available but bring lunch.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be supplied. There will be tea breaks and lunch which you are welcome to bring with you or there are cafes and markets nearby.
